Send your MakerBritain orders directly to your own Royal Mail Click & Drop account!
MakerBritain’s Royal Mail Click & Drop connection saves you from manually copying customer delivery details into Royal Mail. Once connected, you can send an order to Click & Drop from your MakerBritain Store Manager, choose the postage service you want, pay Royal Mail and print your label.
BEFORE YOU START
You’ll need your own Royal Mail Click & Drop account.
Your Royal Mail account belongs to you. MakerBritain does not purchase postage or take payment for your postage.
Each Maker connects their own Click & Drop account to their MakerBritain shop using an API key.
STEP 1 — GET YOUR ROYAL MAIL API KEY
Sign in to your Royal Mail Click & Drop account.
Open your Click & Drop Settings and find the Integrations section.
Add a new integration and choose the Click & Drop API option.
Royal Mail will generate an API key for the connection.
Copy this key somewhere safe. You’ll need it in the next step.
STEP 2 — CONNECT ROYAL MAIL TO MAKERBRITAIN
Sign in to MakerBritain and open your Store Manager.
Select Royal Mail from the menu.
Paste your Royal Mail Click & Drop API key into the box provided and select Save API Key.
MakerBritain will confirm when the key has been saved.
Your Royal Mail account is now connected to your MakerBritain shop.
STEP 3 — OPEN AN ORDER
When you receive an order, open it from Store Manager → Orders.
Scroll to the Royal Mail Click & Drop section.
MakerBritain will show you the customer’s delivery details together with the value of your products and the delivery amount the customer paid.
STEP 4 — CHECK THE DELIVERY ADDRESS
Always check the customer’s delivery details before sending the order to Royal Mail.
For UK addresses, MakerBritain checks the postcode format and will warn you if it doesn’t appear to be a valid UK postcode.
If something needs correcting, select:
Edit delivery address
Make the correction and save the address.
For international orders, UK postcode validation isn’t applied, so check the customer’s address carefully before continuing.
STEP 5 — SEND THE ORDER TO ROYAL MAIL
When the delivery details are ready, select:
Send to Royal Mail
MakerBritain sends your part of the order directly to your own Click & Drop account.
You’ll see confirmation when Royal Mail has accepted it.
To prevent accidental duplicates, an order that has successfully been sent to Royal Mail cannot simply be sent again.
STEP 6 — COMPLETE THE POSTAGE IN CLICK & DROP
Now sign in to your Royal Mail Click & Drop account.
Your MakerBritain order should be waiting for you.
Choose the Royal Mail service that’s appropriate for the parcel you’ve actually packed.
You remain in control of the postage service, parcel size, weight and any other information Royal Mail requires.
Pay Royal Mail directly and create/print your postage label.
MakerBritain does not charge you for the Royal Mail postage.
STEP 7 — RETURN TO MAKERBRITAIN
Sending an order to Royal Mail does not mark it as dispatched.
Once you’ve actually prepared and dispatched the parcel, return to the MakerBritain order.
Directly underneath the Royal Mail section you’ll find Shipment Tracking.
Use this section to add the tracking information where appropriate and mark the item as shipped.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH FREE DELIVERY?
Nothing changes.
If you offered the customer FREE delivery, MakerBritain sends the customer-paid delivery amount to Click & Drop as £0.00.
You still choose and pay for the actual Royal Mail postage yourself.
“Free delivery” simply means your customer wasn’t charged separately for delivery.
ORDERS CONTAINING PRODUCTS FROM DIFFERENT MAKERS
Customers can buy from several MakerBritain Makers in one checkout.
You don’t need to do anything differently.
Your Store Manager deals with your part of the order, and your Royal Mail connection sends your shipment to your own Click & Drop account.
Other Makers deal separately with their products using their own accounts.
IMPORTANT
Sending to Royal Mail is not the same as dispatching the order.
Only mark an order as shipped when you’ve actually dispatched it.
