MakerBritain is a marketplace for independent makers. We celebrate creativity in all its forms — from traditional handcrafts to products created using modern tools and technology.
The tools are different. The creativity is the same.
What can be sold on MakerBritain?
Products should be made, designed, created, personalised or substantially transformed by the Maker selling them.
This can include handmade and hand-finished products, sewing and textiles, jewellery, pottery and ceramics, woodworking, artwork, printed and personalised products, laser-cut or laser-engraved products, CNC-made products, 3D-printed products and other forms of independent creative making.
Using machinery or technology does not make something any less worthy of being on MakerBritain. What matters is that a genuine Maker is behind the product.
Materials and components
Makers may use commercially available materials, blanks, components and supplies as part of their work.
For example, a Maker may purchase a blank product and then print, engrave, decorate, personalise or otherwise transform it into the finished item offered for sale.
We don’t expect Makers to manufacture every raw material or component themselves.
What isn’t allowed?
MakerBritain is not intended for the simple resale of mass-produced products.
Products bought from wholesalers, importers, marketplaces or other suppliers and then resold unchanged should not be listed as MakerBritain products.
Counterfeit goods, unauthorised copies and products that infringe another person’s copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights are not permitted.
Be honest about what you make
Product listings should accurately represent the item being sold.
Makers should not mislead customers about how or where a product is made, the materials used, personalisation available, expected dispatch times or other important product information.
Quality and customer service
Every Maker is responsible for the quality and safety of their own products and for complying with any laws or regulations that apply to what they sell.
Makers are also responsible for fulfilling their orders, communicating with customers and dealing fairly with problems, returns and refunds where applicable.
Maker Gift Vouchers
Where a Maker is eligible to offer Maker Gift Vouchers, they must honour valid Gift Vouchers issued for their MakerBritain shop in accordance with MakerBritain’s Gift Voucher rules.
Makers must not attempt to exchange Gift Voucher credit for cash, manipulate voucher transactions or refunds, or use Gift Vouchers in a way intended to circumvent MakerBritain’s payment, refund or marketplace rules.
Where an order paid wholly or partly using Gift Voucher credit is refunded, the Maker must follow MakerBritain’s refund process so that any voucher-funded amount is returned as Gift Voucher credit rather than being refunded as cash or through another payment method.
MakerBritain may restrict or withdraw a Maker’s ability to offer Gift Vouchers where reasonably necessary because of misuse, suspected fraud, security concerns or failure to comply with these requirements.
Keeping MakerBritain a marketplace for Makers
These standards exist to protect both our Makers and our customers.
MakerBritain may review listings or Maker accounts where we believe products do not meet these standards and may ask for further information about how products are created.
Where products or accounts seriously or repeatedly breach our standards, we may remove listings or suspend or close the Maker’s account.
